Friday.
To many, it’s the best day of the week signifying the end of a long hard workweek and the start of the weekend. The sun seems to shine a bit brighter and everyone tends to be in better spirits. However today began on the dark belly of a storm cloud. On this Friday we woke up to the tragic news of Anthony Bourdain’s suicide.
He was a legend, an inspiration and a teacher to so many around the world. Through his masterful storytelling, people experienced the rush and joy of trying new things and overcoming fears of the unknown.
For years now I have been toying with the idea of creating a food focused travel blog. I would say my main reasons for not actually going through with it were because I am 1. Lazy, and 2. a Perfectionist.
The event of Bourdain’s death got me thinking about how he lived his life to the absolute fullest and beyond. Although he ended his life early, he lived a life full of countless memories and experiences. Live fast, die young.
It seems the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn. Maybe that’s enlightenment enough- to know that there is no final resting place of the mind, no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom, at least for me, means realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.
So today will be the start of this blog! I will share everything food related including recipes and foodgasm anecdotes. Call it a food diary of sorts I suppose.
Thank you Anthony Bourdain for inspiring so many others to push themselves to live life outside of their comfort zone by traveling, eating and experiencing all that this world has to offer.
